The story: unfortunately many people trust tattoo parlors to provide them with accurate and correct renditions of their name in Farsi, Persian, Arabic, Urdu, Sanskrit, Chinese and any number of other languages and scripts. Too often the results are not only incorrect, but a travesty! This design above was created so that another tattoo artist could ink over the original tattoo (shown below). At least in this case the spelling and direction of the writing were correct. But of course the person in question was embarrassed to find that he had the equivelent of first grade writing on his arm. I encourage everyone obtain their designs from people knowledgable in the culture and calligraphic traditions of the language and script you are seeking. If you're not sure, double check with someone you know and ask them if the writing is correct before getting a tattoo.
