Buteh
بوته
The ancient Mesopotamian Tree of Life transformed into the curled Buteh motif (boteh, bota, botteh—known in English as the Paisley). This is the symbol of the tree weighed down with abundance, bowing to the wind, garden in the desert. In South India it is the footstep of Lakshmi, goddess of health, prosperity and abundance. The buteh is in the shape of each half of the Chinese Yin/Yang symbol, representing that which yields to and takes on all forms.
