Chinese calligraphy is one of the world’s most ancient and magnificent written traditions. The essence of this art form is the cultivation of energy — or qi — and its transmission to the written characters. I teach Chinese calligraphy at the Academy for Five Element Acupuncture and offer twelve week courses at Sweetwater Print Cooperative in Gainesville, Florida, exploring the interconnections between Chinese painting and calligraphy. I am indebted to Eugene Liu and Victor H. Mair from whom I studied Chinese language at the University of Pennsylvania; Lee Chen-lok, my mentor in life and art; Yao You-xin, my Chinese calligraphy master; and, most recently to Ou Wen-wei, QiGong Chinese calligraphy master.
